Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville put together a magnificent performance Saturday night by outhitting, outpitching, and out-fielding Savannah. The Tourists scored in seven of the eight innings they batted and Alex Gillingham went eight strong to earn the win.
Gillingham induced 17 outs by way of the groundball and the Tourists were excellent behind him. The South Atlantic League's top fielding team did not commit a single error. The only run Savannah scored was on a sac-fly by Cam Maron in the sixth.
Taylor Featherston led the way offensively for the T's as he Homered twice and scored four times. Jordan Ribera finished 2-for-4 with a two-run Home Run and an RBI double. Brian Humphries, Sam Mende, and Jose Rivera each finished with two hits on the evening.
The only inning Asheville did not score was the bottom of the eighth. They already held a 9-1 lead and had runners at first and second with just one out. Savannah's Jared West was able to record back-to-back strikeouts which ended the frame.
Asheville now leads the series two games to none with game three scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm.
