KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- For the Kannapolis Intimidators, No. 13 was unlucky on Saturday night.

The Rome Braves extended their franchise record winning streak to 13 games with a 5-2 victory over the Intimidators at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Braves (47-66, 29-14 in the 2nd Half) remained in first place in the SAL Southern Division while the Intimidators (48-63, 15-26) are seventh in the Northern Division.

Intimidators starter Matt Lane kept the Braves quiet through the early inning, allowing a run on three hits through five frames but ran into trouble in the sixth and seventh. Lane (3-5) finished his night after 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts -- one shy of his career-high -- and no walks in a losing effort.

Ross Heffley and William Beckwith added a Rome run with back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning for a 2-1 lead. Kannapolis shortstop Chris Curley, who began his professional career in the Braves organization, blasted an opposite field home run to right field to tie the game, 2-2, in the home half of the sixth. Curley, who joined Kannapolis on July 7, now leads all Intimidators with eight home runs this season.

Brandon Drury followed a pair of hits with a run-scoring groundout in the top of the seventh for a 3-2 Rome lead. Kannapolis reliever Daniel Webb came in to record the final out of the inning, and worked a scoreless eight before allowing two runs in the ninth as the Braves pulled away, 5-2.

Rome's Robby Hefflinger led off the second inning with a home run to put the Braves on the board first, but Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Grant Buckner's two-out single to centerfield scored Mark Haddow.

Ian Thomas (4-0) earned a win, allowing a run on two hits over 2 and 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking one. David Peterson worked a 4-out save (6) for the Braves.

Kannapolis and Rome play the third game of this four-game series on Sunday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium at 5:05 p.m. Sundays are Kid's Day presented by Zammitti Orthodontics with pre-game player autographs and post-game kids run the bases. All kids tickets on Sundays are $5. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
