Hickory, NC - The Crawdads blanked Rome in the second game of today's seven-inning doubleheader, taking the game 11-0. The Braves took the first game by a score of 5-4 in the eighth inning.
In the first game, the 'Dads got a run across in the first to make the score 1-0. Trevor Hauver singled to center and advanced to second on a base hit by Dustin Harris. David Garcia followed up with the third straight hit to bring Hauver in to score.
Rome scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take a two-run lead.
The Crawdads chipped away in the sixth, cutting their deficit to a run as Ezequiel Duran homered to left. The homerun was his third since joining the team at the end of July.
They tied things up in the bottom of the seventh on a homerun by Jake Guenther, his seventh on the season.
Rome scored two in the top of the eighth, to give them a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Konner Piotto started as the designated runner at second base. Jared Walker moved him to third on a ground out and Duran brought him home on a sacrifice fly. The 'Dads were unable to get any more across, falling 5-4 in the first game.
Once again, the Crawdads got on the board first, putting up three in the second inning. Garcia and Jake Guenther both singled to put two runners on. Jared Walker sent a homer to right-centerfield to put the 'Dads ahead.
The Crawdads put together a two-run rally in the fourth to bring the score to 5-0. Guenther reached base on a fielding error. Pedro Gonzalez homered to left to give the 'Dads a pair of runs.
The bats erupted in the fifth for six runs to give the 'Dads an 11-0 advantage. Harris drew a walk and Hair was hit by a pitch to get runners aboard for Garcia, who drove a double to right to score two. Guenther hit a double of his own to bring Garcia around. Walker walked before Duran singled to score Guenther and move Walker to third. Duran was able to take second on the throw in. Hauver doubled to score both runners to cap things off.
On the mound for the Crawdads, Avery Weems dazzled in 5.2 innings. He shutout the Braves, giving up four hits, walking none and striking out nine.
