Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames and Adirondack Flames of the AHL, announced Thursday that veteran forward Trent Daavettila has been named team captain for the 2014-15 season. Daavettila now becomes the fourth captain in Colorado Eagles history, with Brent Thompson, Greg Pankewicz and Riley Nelson having also worn the 'C' for the Eagles.
"Being named captain of this Eagles team is very exciting and definitely a great honor for me," said Daavettila. "I really want to try to lead by example, I have had the opportunity to watch Nelson, Ulanski, Beatty and even Schneekloth and learn the ways that they carry themselves on the ice and in the community. I just want to set a good example for the team."
In two seasons with Colorado, Daavettila has notched 133 points in 133 games, including 41 goals and has a cumulative plus-minus rating of plus-16. The veteran forward has also registered 15 points in 12 post-season games with the Eagles.
"I can't think of anyone better suited to take over that leadership role of the team. As Trent has grown with the Eagles over the past couple of years, he has demonstrated that he has what it takes to be that role model for the younger guys and the team as a whole."
Since 2009, Daavettila has produced the most points in the entire ECHL with 397 (including playoff games). In that time, his 270 assists are also good for first, while his cumulative plus/minus rating of plus-79 is tied for first in the ECHL.
