D.C. United to host 13th Annual Armed Forces & Veteran Appreciation Day

Washington, D.C. (April 23, 2012) - D.C. United announced today that the club will host its 13th Annual Armed Forces & Veterans Appreciation Day on Saturday, April 28, as the Black-and-Red take on the Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET / Comcast SportsNet). The event will feature programs throughout the day in support of our Armed Forces, Veterans and their families, and is supported in part by American Airlines and GEICO.

A festival to showcase aspects of the Armed Forces community will be featured in the Tailgate Area in Lot 8 beginning at 5:00 p.m. It will include booths for Armed Forces recruiters, the USO-Metro and various Department of Defense contractor's booths and static displays.

Pre-match activities will include a swearing-in ceremony of new recruits, Colors presented by a Joint Armed Forces Color Guard, and the National Anthem performed by Master Sergeant Antonio Guiliano, Senior Vocalist & National Anthem Soloist of the U.S. Army Chorus.

At halftime, MSG Giuliano will return to lead the fans in "God Bless America", following a precision drill performance by the United States Air Force Drill Team.

D.C. United will also have community outreach efforts ahead of Saturday's event, including a visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and a United Builds event at USO-Metro.
