D.C. United News Release
CHANTILLY, VA (January 29, 2004) - D.C. United, in conjunction with adidas, has announced plans for the Black-and-Red to debut a new home jersey for the 2004 season. After enjoying the performance and comfort of their newly designed away uniforms in 2003, which included a change to adidas's ClimaLite technology, D.C. United decided to implement the same look for their home jerseys next season. United opens the 2004 MLS campaign at RFK Stadium on Saturday, April 3rd with a nationally televised match against the defending MLS Cup champion San Jose Earthquakes. Kick-off for the game is set for 4:00 p.m. ET.
"We're very pleased with the look and feel of the new jerseys," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "Adidas did a great job designing uniforms that will allow our players maximum comfort in addition to continuing the club's on-field identity branding."
There are very few changes in the uniform, with both the base color for the shirt and shorts remaining black. While United's 2004 uniform continues to feature adidas' signature "three stripes" across the chest, the United shield will move this season from the center of the shirt to over the heart. Stripes will also be present on the sleeves. Red will also be more prominent on the new uniforms, providing highlighted patches on the sides of both the sleeves and collar. The new home jerseys and the current road shirts will be the only uniforms D.C. United dons during the 2004 MLS season. The three-time MLS Cup Champions will not include the red alternate third uniforms that were debuted during the 2002 campaign. Those wishing to view the jerseys should log on to www.dcunited.com.
Through a special offer, supporters buying 20 or more tickets to United's home opener will receive a replica jersey free of charge. Plans are also being made to sell replica jerseys on-line and in-stadium. In addition, United for D.C. will be holding an on-line sale after each D.C. United match this year, auctioning off the authentic, game-worn jersey used by United's Man of the Match, as determined by United supporters. Funds raised by the auction will support United for D.C.'s charitable initiatives. For more information, log onto www.unitedfordc.org.
Full season, half season, flex ticket plans and group opportunities, including the special opening day offer, are now on sale through the D.C. United office at 703-478-6600. Individual match tickets to the April 3rd home opener will go on sale March 1, 2004. Prices range from $16 for Spectator level (endline) seating through $36 for Mezzanine level seating. Group pricing (minimum of 20 tickets) ranges from $13 (Spectator) to $28 (Mezzanine). Individual match tickets will be available through all TicketMaster outlets, via www.dcunited.com, via www.ticketmaster.com, via TicketMaster Phone Charge and at the RFK Stadium box office. Group tickets are also available through the D.C. United office.
