LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, CA (Thursday, January 29, 2004) - The Los Angeles Galaxy have reached an agreement with Athletes' Performance - Los Angeles to become the "Official Performance Training Provider" to the club. The agreement is effective immediately and runs through the 2004 Major League Soccer season, the club and the elite athletic training company announced today.
"Our agreement with Athletes' Performance demonstrates the Galaxy's continued investment in our greatest asset, our players," said Los Angeles Galaxy Vice President/General Manager Doug Hamilton. "With this landmark agreement, we have partnered with a "Best in Category" group and we are thrilled to bring them into our team."
The relationship is the first of its kind between Athletes' Performance and an MLS team. Under the terms of the agreement, Athletes' Performance will be responsible for providing service to Galaxy players in three major areas: Performance Training, Regeneration/Nutrition and Performance Testing.
"We are honored to enter into such a ground-breaking relationship with a quality organization like the Galaxy," said Athletes Performance President Mark Verstegen. "Our mission will be to provide the Galaxy with the highest level of world-class service to improve its players' performance on the field and to decrease their potential for injury. We are confident that the combination of our two cutting-edge organizations will produce performance improvement results that will set the standard in the world of soccer."
The Performance Training service entails a yearly program established for each of the Galaxy's players by the team's technical staff and administered by Athletes' Performance. Players will have access to performance coaches in the pre-season, during the season and in the off-season. Each player will then be evaluated according to standards set by the club during each phase of the process.
Galaxy players will be attending seminars hosted by Athletes' Performance personnel as part of the Regeneration/Nutrition segment of the service called for in the agreement. The seminars will focus on Performance Nutrition, Road Travel Strategies and a variety of other pertinent lifestyle topics that affect players' performance. Additionally, the players will work with Athlete's Performance staff to ensure a proper recovery process from their performances on the field.
Finally, in accordance with an established Yearly Program Calendar, Athlete's Performance will provide the Galaxy with Performance Testing of all players. These tests, again conducted based on standards established by the Galaxy, will be administered prior to, during, and after the MLS season.
