
D.C. United Sign MLS Veteran Forward Erik Hurtado

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United have signed forward Erik Hurtado from San Antonio FC for a $10,000 permanent transfer fee. The Black-and-Red have signed Hurtado on a one-year contract through 2023 with an option in 2024.
"We are getting an experienced MLS forward in Erik who will add important depth for us up top," Dave Kasper, D.C. United President of Soccer Operations, said. "Erik is a great competitor who takes no plays off and we look forward to integrating him with our group."
Hurtado joins the Black-and-Red after spending the 2023 season with San Antonio FC in the USL Championship. This season, the forward made two appearances for San Antonio FC and made his debut against Louisville City on April 16.
Prior to joining San Antonio FC, Hurtado played 10 seasons in MLS after initially being selected fifth overall by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Hurtado made his MLS debut on March 2, 2013 against Toronto FC. He scored his first MLS goal on May 10, 2014 in a 1-0 win against the Columbus Crew; he went on to score in four consecutive MLS games.In six seasons with Vancouver, Hurtado scored 17 goals and recorded 14 assists in 127 games across all competitions.
On Dec. 14, 2018, Hurtado was traded to Sporting Kansas City. After making his debut for the side on July 26, 2019, the 32-year-old went on to score seven goals in 33 appearances for Sporting Kansas City. He was then traded to CF Montreal on Feb. 16, 2021. Hurtado recorded one assist in seven appearances before being traded to the Columbus Crew on July 8, 2021. The forward scored three goals in 24 appearances over two seasons for Columbus. Hurtado was out of contract at the conclusion of the 2022 season before signing with San Antonio FC on April 12, 2023.
In college, Hurtado played four years at Santa Clara University from 2009 to 2012. In four years with the university, Hurtado scored 33 goals in 77 appearances and earned the West Coast Conference (WCC) player of the year award in 2012.
