D.C. United Selects Defender Sean Franklin in Stage 1 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft

Washington, D.C. (December 12, 2013)-- D.C. United today announced the club has selected defender Sean Franklin in Stage 1 of the 2013 Major League Soccer Re-Entry Draft. Franklin played 33 games (29 starts) with the Galaxy in 2013, netting one goal and assisting on four others.

The 2008 MLS Rookie of the Year spent six years with the Galaxy after being selected by the club in the first round (4th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Franklin has played 160 matches (150 started) in his MLS career, helping the Galaxy to two Supporters' Shields (2010, 2011) and two MLS Cup Championships (2011, 2012).

"We are thrilled that a high-quality defender in Sean was available in the Re-entry draft," said General Manager Dave Kasper. "Sean is in the prime of his career, and we are excited that he is now part of D.C. United."
