D.C. United News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The D.C. United Foundation and D.C. United are proud to partner with Serve Your City/Ward 6 Mutual Aid (SYC/W6MA) for the Fourth Annual #WeKeepUsSafe Back to School Bash taking place on Saturday, Aug. 26. The Back to School Bash, which launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a day when SYC/W6MA members, community partners, and community members all come together to celebrate the start of the new school year and to make sure that they have both the tangible resources and year-long supports they need to be successful in the upcoming academic year.
Through a citywide campaign in partnership with the D.C. United Foundation and D.C. United, SYC/W6MA is providing up to 2,000 D.C. students with backpacks that include headphones, water bottles, traditional school supplies, sanitary supplies, and fun activities/surprises, as well as snack bags provided by Families4Families. SYC/W6MA will also be distributing over 300 digital devices to students.
"The D.C. United Foundation are proud to partner once again with Serve Your City/Ward 6 Mutual Aid for the annual Back to School Bash and Youth Festival," said Shanell Mosley, Executive Director, D.C. United Foundation. "Through our collaboration, we are able to provide access to essential school supplies and resources to children in our local community to help them be successful on and off the pitch. We truly believe that through partnership and collaboration, we can help make a difference in our shared community."
This year's event will feature food, music, student performances, and activities for students and families including an interactive art project, flower-making station, face painting, and book giveaways. The event will also be an opportunity for families to learn about and sign up for SYC/W6MA's fall tutoring and extracurricular activity programs.
