Revolution Resume MLS Regular Season Campaign at CF Montréal on Saturday Night

August 25, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release

MONTREAL - The New England Revolution (12-4-7; 43 pts. - 2nd in East.) resume the 2023 MLS regular season campaign with a visit to CF Montréal (10-12-2; 32 pts. - 8th in East.) at Stade Saputo on Saturday night. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is free to watch on Apple TV in English, Spanish, or French. Saturday's match can also be heard on the radio locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies on the call, and on 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA in Portuguese.

Saturday's match will mark the Revolution's first competitive action since exiting Leagues Cup, in which they outscored opponents 8-4, on August 7. As the team enters the final 11-game stretch of the league campaign, New England will look to maintain its second-place position in the Eastern Conference and improve on the club's 12 wins, tied for third most in the league. With a potential playoff berth in its crosshairs, New England will also aim to close the eight-point gap with league-leaders FC Cincinnati for the Supporters' Shield lead and top seed in the East.

The Revolution attack has been firing on all cylinders in recent months, led by forwards Giacomo Vrioni and Gustavo Bou, who each tallied three goals in the Leagues Cup tournament. Vrioni collected the first hat trick performance by a New England player in international competition with a three-goal outing against Atletico de San Luis on Aug. 1. In regular season play, Bou and Vrioni each have five tallies, just behind captain Carles Gil and forward Bobby Wood (7) for the team lead. Gil registered two assists in his last league match, raising his total to a league-high 12 helpers on the year. As a unit, the team's 42 goals in regular season play are fourth most in MLS, while the plus-14 goal difference is the third-best margin in the league.

The Revolution have been formidable on the road this season, posting a 3-4-4 mark, the sixth best record in the league away from home. With a win, New England would improve to .500 on the road this season. Canadian international Mark-Anthony Kaye is especially at home north of the border, as he joined New England from Toronto FC during the summer transfer window. Kaye could make his club debut in MLS play after starting all four matches in the Leagues Cup tournament.

New England leads the all-time series with CF Montréal, 15-12-3, including a 4-0 shutout win in the sides' most recent meeting on April 8 in Foxborough. The Revolution have recorded points in the last eight encounters with Montréal, 6-0-2. Bou leads New England with a team-best five goals, with three assists, in eight career games against the Revolution's rivals from Quebec. Montréal won its last two league games, registering a 3-2 victory over Toronto in its return to MLS action on Sunday.
