
D.C. United acquires defender David Habarugira

Washington, D.C. (August 14, 2009) - D.C. United announced today the club has acquired defender David Habarugira. Habarugira completed a trial with the team earlier this summer and will join the Black-and-Red this weekend.
"David is a versatile defender with a big upside," said General Manager Dave Kasper. "He has been in a structured environment for the last several years and has all the tools to be a successful player."
During the 2007-2008 season, Habarugira made his professional debut with Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium's Second Division, where he made 24 appearances. From 2002 until 2007, he played with First Division club Anderlecht's youth teams.
Habarugira has earned six caps with the Burundi National Team. His debut came as a starter on June 1, 2008 in a World Cup qualifying match against Seychelles. He then went on to start the next five qualifiers Burundi played last year.
