Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Friday, August 14, 2009) -- The Houston Dynamo are on the road Saturday night, facing one of the league's best home teams when they take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
The game kicks off at 8:00 p.m. CT and can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español and can be heard on 790 The Sports Animal and 850 La Ranchera. The Dynamo are next at home on Wednesday, August 19, when they host Isidro Metapán in Champions League play, and they are also at home on Sunday, August 23, taking on Western Conference rival Seattle.
The Dynamo (11-6-5, 38 points) have a seven-point lead atop the Western Conference and a two-point lead in the overall MLS standings. Houston is coming off of a dramatic 3-2 home win over the Chicago Fire on Sunday on a late Stuart Holden penalty kick and has won two of its last three games. The Dynamo had three players called to national team duty for the United States on Wednesday, and Brian Ching, Ricardo Clark, and Stuart Holden all saw action in the 2-1 U.S. loss to Mexico. They will join the team in Salt Lake City.
Real Salt Lake (7-8-5, 26 points) is in sixth place out of eight teams in the Western Conference but is less than two games out of second place. RSL is 6-1-3 in home games at Rio Tinto Stadium, currently in its first full season of use. The Dynamo are 1-2-2 all-time in Utah, although those games were played on turf at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Salt Lake is led by forward Robbie Findley, who has eight goals and two assists, and its central midfield trio of Kyle Beckerman, Will Johnson, and Javier Morales. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando has a winning record and saved a penalty kick in RSL's 1-1 draw with the Dynamo June 20. Forward Yura Movsisyan is doubtful with a rotator cuff injury.
The Dynamo are expected to be without up to four regulars for the game, including: forward Cam Weaver (hernia surgery); midfielder Brian Mullan (ankle); and defenders Richard Mulrooney (knee) and Eddie Robinson (knee).
The Dynamo will return to Robertson Stadium for a Wednesday Champions League game against Salvadoran club Isidro Metapán on August 19, at 7:00 p.m. Houston will host the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, August 23, at 7:30 p.m.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and qualified to represent the United States in four consecutive regional championships.
