D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2011) - D.C. United's Youth Academy faced strong opponents over the past weekend, with the Black-and-Red compiling a 3-3-2 record against Seacoast United, FC Greater Boston, and Empire United in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play. The U-14 and U-15 clubs played at RFK Stadium while both the U-16 and U-18 sides traveled to New Hampshire and Syracuse, N.Y.

"I think it was a great weekend all around for the Academy," said U-18 Head Coach Judah Cooks. "Both our U-16's and U-18's played at a high level and responded well to the travel, as well as the guys who stepped up to play with the reserves."

The U-14 squad finished the weekend unscathed, led by two goals from Nick Mayhugh. On Saturday, March 26, the team handily defeated Seacoast United 3-0, with goals scored by Mayhugh, Andrew Ferman, and Brandon Williamson. The Black-and-Red then drew FC Greater Boston the following day, 2-2. Goals by Mayhugh and Jimmy Alverado helped preserve the deadlock.

United's U-16's also completed the weekend undefeated, beginning with a 4-0 drubbing of Seacoast United in New Hampshire on March 26. Ian Harkes scored on a 25-yard strike and Andres Dell'Agostino and Ohjay Porteria also tallied goals, as Collin Martin and Joel Condor provided the assists. Martin then delivered his second assist on the weekend to Martin Lopez in what would be the lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Empire United on Sunday, March 27.

After being held scoreless in a 2-0 loss to Seacoast United on Saturday, the U-18 squad rediscovered its scoring ways on Sunday by thrashing Empire United, 4-0. Julian Griggs scored twice, Mikias Eticha added a goal and an assist, and Andrew Panken completed the scoring for the Black-and-Red.

The U-15 side had the toughest weekend, losing to both Seacoast United, 1-0, and FC Greater Boston, 2-1. Danny Colmenares recorded the lone tally for the Black-and-Red in the FC Greater Boston match.
