Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The Cyclones (19-12) pushed their winning streak to five games after topping the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday evening by the score of 6-2. For the first time in five games the Cyclones were held to single digit runs, but the Brooklyn pitching staff picked up the slack and limited the Jammers to only four hits and no earned runs. Jeff Landing (2-4) was phenomenal on the mound for Brooklyn, allowing two unearned runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two over his seven innings of work. Jesus Gamero finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Cyclones.
Brooklyn jumped on the scoreboard early, scoring four times in the first inning, thanks to an RBI groundout by Jesus Gamero and a three-run double by Jonel Pacheco, which gave the Cyclones a 4-0 edge after one. Brooklyn added to their lead in the second when Gamero plated Joe Holden with an RBI single to push the lead to 5-0. Jamestown rallied in the third, scoring twice to trim the Cyclones lead to 5-2, but that was as close as they would get, due to the combined efforts of Landing, Eric Domangue and Joe D'Alessandro. The Brooklyn pitchers combined to allow only two hits over the final six innings of the game. Jesus Gamero capped off the scoring, with his third RBI of the game, a single that chased home Holden, to make the final score 6-2.
The Cyclones honored the 1955 World Series Champion Brooklyn Dodgers in a pre-game ceremony. Carl Erskine, Clem Labine, Ed Roebuck, George "Shotgun" Shuba and Joan Hodges were on hand, and threw out the ceremonial first pitches following a pre-game parade around the warning track of the stadium.
The Cyclones will look to sweep the three game series from the Jammers tomorrow evening at 5:00pm. Kevin Tomasiewicz (1-0) will make his first start of the season, when he toes the rubber for the âClones. Tomorrow will also be Parrot Head Night at the stadium, with a post-game performance by the Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, Pirate Dreams. In addition, the Cyclones will be wearing Hawaiian-style jerseys. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX, going to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park box office.
