Cyclones Sign Forward Michael Cohen

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, announced today that they have signed second-year forward Michael Cohen. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Cohen, 23, was released by Reading at the end of training camp. Last season, he began his rookie season with Johnstown and appeared in 30 games, netting five goals and ten assists for 15 points. On January 8 of last season, Michael was traded to Pensacola in exchange for Mike Sgroi. He spent the final 35 contests of the season with the Ice Pilots, collecting five more goals and 15 assists for 20 points.

The five-foot-nine, 185 pound native of Williamsville, NJ, played collegiately at Canisius College-where was a teammate of current Cyclone Billy Irish-Baker. While at Canisius, Cohen played in 134 games and picked up 42 goals and 58 assists for 100 points. Following his collegiate career with the Golden Griffins, he launched his pro career at the end of the 2006-07 season with Reading for seven games, tallying a goal and five assists there.

Cohen has reported to Cincinnati and will be available for Friday night's game at Wheeling. Face off is slated for 7:35pm and the game can be heard in the Queen City on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5).

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones home opener is at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
