October 22, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, are pleased to announce that Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer and Arizona State alumnus Dan "The Beast" Severn will make an appearance and sign autographs Friday when the RoadRunners host the Idaho Steelheads at 7:05 p.m. at US Airways Center.
Severn will hold a pre-game speaking engagement with local wrestling teams from across Arizona and drop the opening puck. He will be available on the concourse during intermissions to sign autographs and take pictures.
Severn, 54, was a four-time All-American wrestler at Arizona State University and an alternate on the 1984 and 1988 United States Olympic Teams. After participating as an amateur in numerous competitions across the world, the Coldwater, Mich. native became the first world-class wrestler to join the UFC when he stepped into "The Octagon" for the first time in 1994.
On May 17, 1996, Severn was crowned UFC Superfight Champion in his home state of Michigan after defeating Ken Shamrock to become what is still the only triple-crown UFC champion in the sport today. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on April 16, 2005.
The RoadRunners continue their six-game season-opening home-stand at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday as they welcome the Idaho Steelheads to US Airways Center for the opening game of a two-game series.
Great seats are still available beginning as low as $8 and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (480) 784-4444, purchasing online ticketmaster.com or visiting the US Airways Center Box Office. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2008-09 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
