Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn NY, August 18, 2004 - The Brooklyn Cyclones will bring a taste of Italy to KeySpan Park on August 25th for 'Italian Night.' Before the game against the Oneonta Tigers, Joe Gannascoli from Sopranos will team up with Cyclones Manager, Tony Tijerina, for their own game of bocce. Brought to New York City by Italian immigrants, bocce is one of the oldest of all lawn games and has experienced somewhat of a Renaissance in Brooklyn. To set the tune to the night's festivities, Brooklyn native Angelo Venuto and the Sicilians will perform "L'Italiano" from their #1 dance hit album. Good tickets to Wednesday's game are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX or going online at www.brooklyncyclones.com.

Games and songs are just part of this Italian feast. After bocce, local Brooklyn pizzerias from Brooklyn will take part in the "Best Garlic Knot in Brooklyn" contest. A panel of Italian-American fans, led by Joe Gannascoli, will decide which knot reigns supreme. And ever wondered what a baseball game sounds like in Italy? During the August 25th game an entire inning will be announced in Italian.

"We are thrilled to pay homage to our Italian neighbors and fans," said Steve Cohen, General Manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones. "With so much Italian action in one night, I'm getting hungry for some of those garlic knots."

The Brooklyn Cyclones are the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. The team plays its home games at KeySpan Park, the 7,500-seat stadium in Coney Island. In 2003, the Brooklyn Cyclones completed an exciting season by playing in the league championship series. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Ticket information is obtainable by calling 718-449-TIXS (8497), by visiting the team's website at www.brooklyncyclones.com, or by calling the Shea Stadium box office at 718-507-TIXX (8499).
