Renegades melt Ironbirds

Fishkill, NY- The Hudson Valley Renegades were victorious last night over the Aberdeen Ironbirds 9-2 at Dutchess Stadium. The win, accompanied by two New Jersey Cardinals loses puts the Renegades back in the driver seat for the wild card in the New York-Penn League.

The Renegades lead 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth when they broke the game wide open scoring four runs. CF Fernando Perez drove in the first earned run of the inning with a RBI single after the Renegades had scored an unearned run. C John Jaso, the New York-Penn Leagues player of the month for July followed two batters later with a two RBI double.

The Renegades kept up the offensive onslaught scoring three more runs in the seventh on a RBI ground outs from DH Chad Cooper and RF Shaun Cumberland. Perez scored the last run of the inning after he tripled and an errant throw allowed him to score.

Jarrad Lavergne (ND) started the game for the Renegades pitching 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. Nick Wagner (W, 1-0) earned the win in 2 2/3 innings of relive, allowing no hits or runs while striking out three.

Wimer Mendez (L, 0-1) got the loss for Aberdeen. He pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing four runs, but none were earned thanks to six Ironbirds errors. He also struck out three.

The Renegades and Ironbirds square off again tomorrow. Scheduled to start for the Renegades is Brandon Mann (2-4, 4.17) against the Ironbirds. Game time is scheduled for 7:11 PM.
