PRESIDENT OBAMA BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT
TODAY'S MATCHUP: Today the Cyclones will look to close out their three-game weekend tour of the Atlantic Division with a win as they visit the Trenton Titans for a Sunday matinee. Cincinnati earned its third shutout of the season last night as Michael Houser made 33 saves in a 4-0 win and now lead the season series over Trenton 2-0. Since 2006, the Clones have gone 16-5-1 at the Sun Center.
SCOUTING THE TITANS: Vince Williams' club had its brief two-game winning streak halted last night and remain a whopping 23 points back of the division-leading Reading Royals. Andy Bombach leads the team in scoring, posting 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists) in 39 games. Third-year pro Stephen Schultz has amassed 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 33 games for the Titans this season. New Jersey Devils goalie prospect Scott Wedgewood has played the last four games between the pipes and has accumulated a 12-12-2 record with a 3.14 goals-against average. He made 38 saves in the loss to Cincinnati last night. Rookie Niko Hovinen has also shared some time in net for Trenton; he is 4-6-1-2 this year with a 3.14 GAA. Trenton's biggest asset has been its penalty kill; while it allowed two goals last night, they still lead the ECHL with a 85.5% efficiency rate.
Keep on Killin': With another strong night on Tuesday in the penalty kill department, the Cyclones have extinguished 85.1% of their opponents power play chances - good for third best in the ECHL.
Holding Up The "House": Cyclones goalie Michael Houser enjoyed his best performance of his young career over the weekend. Last Saturday, he made a Cyclones season-high 45 saves to help his team rally for a 5-2 win over Fort Wayne. Then, last night, he posted his first professional shutout by earning 33 saves in a 4-0 win over Trenton. He's the second Cincinnati goalie this year to post a blanking.
Offense on Defense: Cincinnati rear guard Taylor Ellington has continued to dent the scoreboard since being acquired from Florida. He ranks fourth among active ECHL rear guards in scoring, posting 22 points (4 goals, 18 assists) in 36 total games.
