KELLY CUP EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS - GAME 7
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After the Walleye staved off elimination on back-to-back nights last weekend, the series has again shifted to Toledo. Tonight, it's Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals where the Cyclones hope they can close out this best-of-seven set. Cincinnati outscored the Walleye 7-3 in the first pair of games at Huntington Center and have the edge in series scoring at 15-11.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: On the shoulder's of some great goaltending, Nick Vitucci's club has clawed their way back to a one-game deficit. Byron Froese has been Toledo's offensive leader in this series, notching four points (2 goals, 2 assists) through five games. Meanwhile, Joey Martin, Travis Novak, Trevor Parkes, Aaron Bogosian, and Willie Coetzee all have three tallies. After riding the bench for the first three games, Jordan Pearce has come on strong in the last two, posting a 1.18 goals-against average in this series and a 95.8 save percentage.
Among the Best: Cyclones forward Mike Embach is having an impressive start to his first-career playoff year. He leads Cincinnati is this series with seven points (3g, 4a) and ranks 4th among all ECHL postseason players.
Get that First One: Much like the regular season, getting an early lead has been critical in this series. Two of Cincy's three wins have come when opening the scoring. All time in postseason play (since 2007), they are 31-5 in such situations.
Saving the Best for Last: All year long, the Cyclones most productive period was the third - and that's held true in this first round series. Seven of the Cyclones 15 goals have come in the final frame. They've outscored the Walleye 15-11 overall through five games.
