Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced today that Adam Dexter is the 2012-13 recipient of the ECHL Equipment Manager of the Year Award, presented by Reebok. The winner is determined by a vote of team equipment managers and athletic trainers.
Dexter is in his 10th season as an equipment manager, joining the Solar Bears in August of 2012 after working as an assistant equipment manager for the last two seasons with the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL). He served as the equipment manager for the Mississippi RiverKings in the Central Hockey League (CHL) from 2008-2010 following two years with the Youngstown SteelHounds, also of the CHL. Dexter had previous ECHL experience as the equipment manager for the Charlotte Checkers in the 2005-06 season. A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Dexter began his career as an equipment manager working for the University of Alaska-Anchorage from 2003-05.
"Not only is it a huge honor to be selected by my peers for this award, but it is also a very humbling experience," said Dexter. "I want to thank Joe Haleski, Bob Ohrablo, Jason Siegel, and Drake Berehowsky for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to come to Orlando."
"Adam demonstrates a great attitude every day, and this award is well deserved," said Head Coach Drake Berehowsky.
The Orlando Solar Bears, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and AHL's Houston Aeros, play all of their home games at the 2012 Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center.
