TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Cyclones are on the road for the second straight weekend as they migrate south in hopes of snapping a three-game losing skid and, in the process, hold on to at least a tie for the top spot in the North Division. Tonight, the Greenville Road Warriors will stand in their way sitting just four points ahead of the Clones in the conference. This year, Cincinnati has split the only two previous meetings with their South Carolina foes and have collected a 5-4-0-2 mark in the All-Time Series.
SCOUTING THE KOMETS: After dropping Thursday night's game to Toledo, combined with a Gwinnett win over Wheeling, the Road Warriors fell out of the South Division lead. However, they still own the Eastern Conference's most dangerous offense - scoring an average of 3.48 goals per game. Marc-Olivier Vallerand paces the Road Warriors in points, notching 52 tallies (17 goals, 35 assists) in 45 games - the second most of all active ECHL players. Rookie Jordie Johnston places eighth among first-year players with 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) in 34 contests. Rookie goaltender Scott Stajcer has started in the last two games for Dean Stork's club and has amassed a 8-3-1-1 record and a 2.79 goals-against average.
The New Guy: This week, the Cyclones have added a new defenseman - Davidd Nicoletti. The Alabama-Huntsville product has spent his entire pro career overseas, most recently with Braehead Clan. This year, he had notched 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists) in 24 games.
Shorty Rock: The Clones have amassed the fourth most shorthanded goals of any team in the ECHL, registering four this season. Rookie Josh Birkholz is the team leader in this category; he has three "shorties" this season - ranking him first among rookies and second overall in the league.
