Cyclones Defeat Fuel in Rematch
December 16, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
CINCINNATI - After losing the first game of a back-to-back series against the Cincinnati Cyclones (11-10-4-0), the Indy Fuel (8-14-1-1) were unable bounce back Friday night at U.S. Bank Arena in a 4-1 loss. Indy is now winless in their last eight games (0-8-0-1), dating back to a Nov. 25 shootout loss at Quad City.
Cincinnati scored the first two goals of the evening in the first period from forwards Jordan Sims and Peter Leblanc. Leblanc's goal at the 16:59 mark would ultimately be the game winner. New addition Alex Guptill scored his second consecutive goal in his second game with the Fuel in the second period. The second period would end on a note of controversy as Shane Walsh scored in what appeared to be after the buzzer. The call was afterwards upheld and Cincinnati entered intermission with a 3-1 lead.
The third period was scoreless until Dominic Zombo scored on an empty Fuel net with 59 seconds left in the game. The Fuel had plenty of offensive opportunities, edging the Cyclones 32-25 in shots and failing to convert any of their six power play opportunities. Cincinnati goaltender, Michael Houser, managed to save 31 of 32 shots and aided in his team's perfect penalty kill performance
Friday's win gives Cincinnati a one-game lead in the 2016-17 season series with a 3-2-0-0 record. The two clubs will meet again at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Dec. 30.
Next Home Game: Saturday, December 17 vs. Quad City Mallards - 7:35 p.m. (Teddy Bear Toss) It's that time of year when fans pommel the ice with new and gently used stuff animals after the first Fuel score. Each furry friend will be collected and donated to central Indiana children by way of the Toys For Tots campaign.
Single-game tickets are now available for the third season of Fuel hockey in Indianapolis at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum box office or at all Ticketmaster locations. Ticket Plans of all sizes are also available, from Full-Season Plans to six and three-game packages, in addition to Group Ticket options.
