Cutters Top Connecticut for 19th Win

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: July 24, 2011 - The Williamsport Crosscutters improved to 19-18 on the season Sunday afternoon, tying a team-high 13 hits in their 5-3 victory over the Connecticut Tigers.
The Cutters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI single to left by Harold Martinez. They tacked on another in the third on a one-out RBI single by Maikel Franco through the hole at short.
Connecticut took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, using three hits to plate three runs off Cutters starter Mike Nesseth. Dean Green's two-out, two-run single to right was the critical hit of the inning. The lead did not last long, however, as Kyrell Hudson's sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth tied the game at three runs apiece.
The Cutters took advantage of a two-out balk by Tigers reliever Scott Green to tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth. After moving to second on the balk, Bob Stumpo scored on an RBI single by Hudson. Hudson immediately stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Taylor Black to make it 5-3 Williamsport.
That score would be the final, as Cutters righties Matt Campbell and Juary Gomez combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief to seal the victory.
These two teams will play a final game here on Monday at 12:05pm. Williamsport will open a six-game homestand starting Wednesday night with a 7:05pm matchup versus Vermont. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
