BURLINGTON, Vt. - A pitcher's duel broke out at Centennial Field for the second day in a row, but the Jamestown Jammers found themselves on the right end of the scoreboard Sunday as they beat the Vermont Lake Monsters, 3-1.

Jose Urena earned his third win of the season after going 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, walking one, allowing one earned run and striking out six. Relievers Brad Mincey and Miguel Mejia didn't allow a base runner in 3.1 innings of work with Mejia earning his first save.

The Jammers got on the board in the second inning thanks to a leadoff walk by Josh Adams. He moved to third on a single by Jobduan Morales and scored on a single by Kentrell Dewitt that sent Morales to third. Nate Woods proceeded to bounce into a double play, but Morales scored from third to make it 2-0.

In the third inning, Ryan Goetz advanced all the way to third on a fielding error by center fielder Aaron Shipman, and Pedro Mendoza lined a single to right to plate the third and final run for the Jammers.

The Lake Monsters finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Urena began to tire. Sean Jamieson led off with a double and moved to third on Chad Oberacker's bunt single. A ground out would get Oberacker out at second and score the only run of the game for the Lake Monsters. Dusty Robinson lined a single to center to put the tying run at first with two outs; however, he was the last batter to reach for Vermont as Mincey came on in relief and got a ground out to end the frame.

In his first game since coming off the disabled list, Mendoza led the offense with two hits and a RBI. Jobduan Morales also had a pair of singles as the Jammers collected seven hits on the afternoon without an extra-base hit.

Tyler Vail was the hard-luck loser for Vermont. He allowed five hits, three runs and two walks with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Offensively, Jamieson picked up another three hits with a double and the only run scored.

The win vaults Jamestown (21-16) back into a first-place tie with Mahoning Valley following the Scrappers loss to Hudson Valley.

The two teams will wrap up the series Monday at 7:05 p.m. in Vermont.
