Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Williamsport took an eleven inning marathon over Jamestown 3-1, but fell on the back end of the double-header 4-3 in walk-off fashion Tuesday night.
In game one, Yan Carlos Olmo, Steven Inch and Geoff Broussard played hero roles. Olmo drove in the eventual game-winning run, Inch got the Cutters out of a tough seventh inning jam and Broussard shut down a fierce eleventh inning Jammer rally.
Olmo drove in Chris Serritella to give the Cutters the lead in the second inning, but Williamsport's defense was sloppy, allowing Jamestown to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Anthony Gomez stole second and Kevin Quaranto's throw went into center field. Then, a bad throw by Kyle Hoppy could not be backed up, hopped over the Jamestown dugout and scored Gomez to ties the game.
The score stayed 1-1 for a long time. In the seventh inning, Jamestown DH Matt Juengel led off Cutters reliever Andre Kinder with a triple. Righty Inch was brought in to put out the fire and got the next three in succession to get the game to extras.
In the eleventh, Serritella beat out a leadoff infield single. Cameron Perkins then singled to left field. Mitch Walding laid down a bunt to advance the runners, but it was so good that he reached base to load the bases. Olmo then drilled a ball to deep left center to score Serritella and Perkins and give Williamsport a 3-1 lead.
Jamestown did rally, putting runners at second and third on Nic Hanson with one out. But Andy Tracy brought in Broussard to shut down Juengel and Pedro Mendoza in order to win the game.
Game two was less eventful for the Cutters. Williamsport needed starter Jon Musser to eat some innings and after early struggles, he settled down.
Jamestown took the lead in the first inning, before Zach Taylor scored Olmo on an opposite field double in the second.
Williamsport then took a 3-1 lead in the third when Jiandido Tromp scored on an error and Roman Quinn came home on a wild pitch.
But the Cutters couldn't hold. Jamestown cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the third, before Michael Main homered off of Matt Sisto to tie the game in the fifth. In the seventh inning, Sisto put runners on the corners with one out. Andrew Aizenstadt was brought in to get Williamsport out of trouble, but Viosergy Rosa instead hit a walk-off single to center field.
The Crosscutters improve to 23-38 on the season and to 10-9 in August.
The Cutters play their third game of four against Jamestown Wednesday at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
