WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY-The Hudson Valley Renegades (41-20) shut out the Connecticut Tigers (28-32) by a score of 4-0 before 4,400 fans at Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday night. The loss ends Connecticut's four-game winning streak.
Groton native and Hudson Valley RHP Jesse Hahn (2-2) pitched five scoreless innings to earn his second win over the Tigers this season. He also tossed five innings without giving up a run on August 16 at Dodd.
The Renegades scored a run in the third inning on a fielder's choice. LF Marty Gantt (1-3) singled and moved to second base on a throwing error by Connecticut RHP Edgar De La Rosa (4-4). CF Joey Rickard (1-1) was hit by a pitch and 2B Tommy Coyle's (1-3) walk loaded the bases. C Luke Maile (0-4) reached on a fielder's choice, Coyle was retired at second base and Gantt scored for a 1-0 lead.
The first two men in the Hudson Valley seventh inning reached base on walks. Gantt laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Rickard lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score one run.
Coyle followed with a two-run home run over the right field wall for a 4-0 advantage.
The Tigers and Renegades do battle on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Matt Spann (2-4, 3.62) starts for Hudson Valley while RHP Endrys Briceno (4-2, 4.45) takes the mound for Connecticut. Pre-game radio coverage starts at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday night on AM 1310 WICH and online at cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
The Tigers saw a 23% increase in attendance in 2011, (the 4th highest in Minor League Baseball), and are in their 3rd season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale! The Box Office is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
