Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport scored five runs in the eighth inning to make up a four-run deficit and beat the State College Spikes 9-6 Sunday night.

The Cutters left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings, but came through in the eighth thanks to some luck. Cameron Perkins brought the game to 6-5 when a routine grounder ricocheted off second base and scored two runs. Eric Wood then couldn't handle a Chris Serritella chop to third as Kyle Hoppy scored the tying run. Mitch Walding then broke it open 8-6 with a line-drive two-run single up the middle.

Amid an energetic crowd at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, Larry Greene, Perkins and Serritella starred offensively. Greene hit two doubles, reached four times and drove in a run. He has 21 doubles this season. Perkins went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs. Serritella, meanwhile, went 3-for-5 and is 7-for his last-10 stretching back to Saturday.

Roman Quinn also tied Mike Moreno's 14-year old Williamsport short-season runs scored record with his 51st run of the 2012 season. He did it ten games faster than Moreno.

State College took the lead in the third inning on a line-drive single to right-center field by Chris Diaz, but Larry Greene tied it up in the fourth on a double to right field.

The Spikes again jumped ahead in the bottom of the fourth, but Roman Quinn doubled to tie the ballgame in the fifth.

State College again answered in the bottom half of the fifth. Yhonathan Barrios reached on an error by Cutters starter Kevin Brady, stole third and came home on an error by Mitch Walding.

Williamsport would then allow their second tough sixth inning in as many nights. Reliever Nic Hanson surrendered three runs to give the Spikes a 6-2 lead.

The eighth-inning rally put the Cutters up for good as Geoff Broussard preserved the lead for his seventh save. Williamsport has won six of eleven against State College this year and can clinch a SawBuck series victory Monday at 4:05.
