New Haven County Cutters News Release


FIRST-HALF IN THE BOOKS: The New Haven County Cutters completed the first-half of the 2006 season with a record of 25-20, one-half game behind the North Shore Spirit who clinch the first-half crown with a mark of 25-19.

ALL-STAR SELECTIONS: As a result of owning the league's best record following the games on July 2nd, Cutters' skipper Mike Church will serve as manager for the Can-Am League All-Star Team. Church was responsible in selecting the pitchers, reserves and coaches for the team as the starters were picked by the league's managers and local media ... Cutters pitching coach Rafael Valdez was chosen to serve in the same capacity for the All-Star Team while left-handed starting pitcher Rolando Valles and second baseman Jose Delgado will also represent the Cutters for the Can-Am League when they face the American Association All-Stars on July 18th ... The American Association is made up of 10 teams located in the Midwestern and the Southeastern United States. They will serve as the event's all-star host with the game to be played in league-member El Paso Diablos' home park, Cohen Stadium.

LEAGUE LEADERS: At the midway point of the season, both 2B Jose Delgado and CF Marcus Nettles are tied for third in the Can-Am with 18 stolen bases ... Nettles has swiped 18 this season despite not playing since June 16 because of injury ... Delgado is a perfect 18-for-18 in stolen bases while Nettles is 18-for-20 ... As a team, the Cutters are tied for first in the league with 69 stolen bases ... RHP Andy Weimer is tied for first in the league with nine saves ... LHP Rolando Valles is fifth in the league with a 2.31 ERA ... Weimer and RHP Corey Willey are 1 & 2, respectively, in the league in appearances with 23 and 22.

STREAKS: The Cutters are a perfect 20-0 when leading after seven innings.
