Cutters Lose To Lumberjacks In Extra Innings 9-6

New Haven County Cutters News Release


(West Haven, CT- July 16, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters fell to the Bangor Lumberjacks in the series opener and second half opener at Yale Field 9-6 in ten innings.

The Cutters responded to a two run second inning with five of their own in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Forbes led off with a single and Aaron Fera followed with an RBI double. The cutoff throw to the plate was thrown away by Shin Uchino allowing Fera to reach third. Darren Ciraco tied the game with tied the game at two with his groundout to second. After a Billy Rich double, Nick Hiter laid down a bunt for an infield single that Paul Powell threw away allowing Billy Rich to score. With two outs and runners on, Gavin Fingleson and Hector Lebron delivered a pair of RBI singles to give the Cutters a 5-2 lead. Gavin Fingleson was thrown out at the plate trying to score the sixth run to end the inning.

The Lumberjacks would chip away with the longball. A two-run shot by Derry Hammond and a solo blast by Kazuhiro Kohno supplied the offense. Kohno's blast gave the Lumberjacks a 6-5 lead in the seventh.

The Cutters tied it in the eighth on an RBI single by Fera that scored Gavin Fingleson.

The game would stay tied into the tenth when New Haven closer Shane Waroff gave up three unearned runs that put Bangor up 9-6.

Lance Calmus worked a perfect tenth for his first save of the season.

The 2-3-4-5 hitters for the Cutters all had multi-hit games and collectively went 8-for-19 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.

The Cutters drop only their second extra inning game of the season on fireworks night at Yale Field.

Bangor leftfielder Derry Hammond went 3-for-5 in the win.
