July 17, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

(West Haven, CT)- The New Haven County Cutters couldn't come up with the big hit and despite holding a lead dropped their fifth game in the last seven to the Bangor Lumberjacks 5-2.

With the score tied at one in the fifth inning, Kevin Forbes drove a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Gavin Fingleson putting the Cutters up 2-1. That was the only time that New Haven would hold the lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Mark Burke hit a tapper in front of the plate with runners in motion from first and second. The weakly hit ball was scooped up by Nick Hiter down the first base line and he threw out Burke. Hargreaves, the runner originally on second, scored from third on a close play at the plate with Hiter out of position from fielding the ball. The next batter, Jose Garcia gave the Lumberjacks the lead with an RBI single.

New Haven would only once string together two hits or more in an inning.

Forbes was involved with both runs scored, he was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

The Lumberjacks would add two more on the eighth homer of the season for Mark Burke to take a 5-2 lead in the eighth. Burke finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBI on the night. Bangor scored their runs on seven hits with only one of them, Burk's home run, going for extra bases.

Donnie Ross went 1-for-3 with three runs scored.

Every Sunday is a WEBE 108 Family FUNday with plenty of entertainment to keep all ages entertained. Tickets for these games and others are available by calling the Cutters front office, 203-777-5636, or through the team's website, cuttersbaseball.com.
