Cutters Fall to Skyhawks in Ten, 6-4

WEST HAVEN, CT - Designated hitter Larry Bathea's RBI double and third baseman Brian Rios' RBI single in the top of the 10th inning lifted the Sussex Skyhawks over the New Haven County Cutters, 6-4, Wednesday night in the final game of a three-game series at Historic Yale Field.
Trailing 4-2 in the eighth inning, the Cutters had rallied to tie the game with RBI singles from third baseman Junior Zamora and right fielder Jeremy Pickrel.
The Cutters held a 2-1 advantage after five innings but a fielding error in the sixth led to a three-run frame and a 4-2 Skyhawks' lead.
Left fielder Henri Stanley's RBI ground out in the third inning and RBI sac fly in the fifth had given the Cutters a 2-1 advantage.
Skyhawks' catcher Matt Ceriani and Bathea each went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Cutters' centerfielder Ervin Alcantara went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the loss.
Skyhawks' starter RHP Ryan Dittfurth surrendered four runs on six hits and struck out seven in 7.1 innings, taking a no decision. Reliever RHP Bart Braun, Jr. (1-0) allowed one hit in 2.2 innings and recorded the win.
LHP Jeff Farrell started for the Cutters and tossed 5.1 solid innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits in a no decision.
RHP Andy Weimer (0-2) was touched for both Skyhawks' runs in the 10th inning and suffered the loss.
The Cutters open a four-game series in Atlantic City against the Surf beginning Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 pm.
LHP Brad Whitworth (1-2, 1.01 ERA) will take the hill for the Cutters.
