Pride Bolsters Lineup

(NASHUA, NH, June 13, 2007) Nashua Pride officials announced today that the team has signed infielder Jermy Acey. The former Toronto Blue Jays draft pick played most of this season at 2B with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings of the independent United League, hitting .329 with 4 HR, 20 RBI, 2 SB, a .525 slugging percentage, and a .388 on base percentage in 29 games.

To make space on the roster for Acey, the Pride traded 1B Jose Velazquez to the Can-Am Grays, the league's traveling team, for future considerations. In his 13-year professional career Velazquez has hit at a .284 clip, with 97 HR, and 732 RBI.

The Pride have also signed C Luis Rodriguez, who played for Nashua in the 2005 season. In that season, Rodriguez appeared in 76 games and hit .289 with 8 HR, and 46 RBI. The Pride have also placed C Allen Mottram on the inactive list for 30 days due to a fracture in his ankle.

In another roster move, the North Shore Spirit sent rookie C/3B Chris Torres to the Pride for future considerations. In 5 games this season, Torres is hitting .364 with a .455 slugging percentage. To make room on the roster for Torres the Pride have released catcher Jeff Funaro.

Acey was a 23rd round draft pick in 2003 by the Toronto Blue Jays. He spent 3 years in the Blue Jays' organization before splitting time between Edinburg and Rio Grande of the United League. Last year, with Rio Grande, Acey hit .310 with 4 HR, 27 RBI, had 10 SB, and an on base percentage of .389 in 47 games. In his 5-year minor league career, Acey has hit at a .294 clip with 23 HR, 146 RBI, and with 37 SB.

Rodriguez started his career in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system. In 11 seasons he has played in the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Cardinals and Tigers organizations. In his career, Rodriguez has hit .260 with 54 HR, 341 RBI, and a .322 OBP.
