New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT- The New Haven County Cutters, gave up 11 runs and 15 hits to the Brockton Rox Tuesday night at Historic Yale field, falling to the Rox 11-4.

One game after giving up 22 hits in a decimating 13-12 loss to the Quebec Capitales, the Cutters struggled again with their pitching. Trevor Marcotte (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season since joining the Cutters a couple weeks ago. Marcotte blew through the first three innings before stumbling in the fourth and fifth innings and left the game with the Cutters trailing 6-2.

The Rox pounded the Cutters bullpen in the eighth as Bryan Brainer loaded the bases with nobody out and left the game giving way to Adam Piechowski. The usually steady Piechowski ended up letting in five runs, including two runs of his own. The Cutters have now given up 35 runs in their last four games and have given up an average of 14 hits in their past eight games.

Rolando Viera (11-5) picked up the win for the Rox pitching seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. The Cutters got a run off Viera in the fourth as DH Jeremy Pickrel led off the inning with a triple before being singled home by 1B Chris Gaskin. The Cutters got another run off of Viera in the fifth as LF Henri Stanley led off that inning with a triple before being sacrificed home by 3B Junior Zamora.

But that was it in terms of scoring until the eighth when Cutters SS Chas Terni blasted a two-run home run, his fifth of the season.

The Cutters are now five games back of the Nashua Pride for the final playoff spot in the Can-Am League with six games remaining. The Cutters will play game two of their four game series with the Rox tomorrow night at 7:05 P.M. Kevin Culpepper (1-4) pitches for the Cutters, Bryan Morse (4-5) will throw for the Rox.
