
Lantigua, Martin Take Home Weekly Prizes

DURHAM, NC -- Quebec Capitales 1B Eddie Lantigua and North Shore Spirit LHP Brandon Martin were selected by PA-Sportsticker, the league's official statistician, as the Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for August 20th-August 26th.
In seven games, Lantigua batted .433 (13-for-30) with two home runs and 12 RBI to go along with a slugging percentage of .667. He also scored seven runs, stole two bases and had a .514 on-base percentage. Currently, Lantigua is hitting .328 with 19 home runs, 78 RBI, 106 hits and 55 runs scored. The Quebec City, QC resident is first in the Can-Am in home runs and runs batted in, third in hits and slugging percentage (.557) and fifth in batting average.
Lantigua is now in his seventh season with the Quebec Capitales. Originally, he was signed as a non drafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in March of 1991. Along with the Dodgers, Lantigua has played in the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organizations.
Martin had two solid appearances for North Shore this past week. The southpaw accumulated a record of 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings pitched. He gave up two runs, one earned, on only three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The Marietta, GA resident in six outings with the Spirit is 1-0 with a 2.93 ERA. He has 10 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings pitched and are holding opponents to a batting average of only .157. Martin becomes the seventh different North Shore player to receive Player of the Week honors this season.
The 25-year-old Martin is in his third year of professional baseball. He spent the previous two seasons with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.
