American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(NASHUA, NH, August 28, 2007) Patrick Scalabrini belted a three-run homer in the third inning and added a two-run single in the eighth on Tuesday night to lead the Quebec Captiales to a 7-4 victory over the Nashua Pride in front of 1,675 fans at Historic Holman Stadium. The loss means Nashua's magic number remains four to clinch a berth in the Can-Am League playoffs. Any combination of four Nashua wins or Quebec losses would mean a post season appearance for the Pride. The league playoffs begin next Wednesday.
Quebec scored five runs in the third inning off Nashua starter and loser Tim Bausher (4-4). Only one of the five runs was earned. The big blow was Scalabrini's home run, his fifth of the season. Quebec added two runs in the seventh off reliever Jason Kosow on Scalabrini's two-out, two-run single.
Making his first appearance for Quebec, Santos Hernandez (1-0) worked into the eighth inning, allowing six hits and two runs, walking none and striking out five. Reliever T.J. Stanton finished up and allowed a pair of runs in the ninth inning.
Jermy Acey paced the Nashua attack by going three-for-five including a leadoff home run in the eighth inning off Hernandez. For Acey it was his sixth homer of the season.
The game ended when Chris Colabello of the Pride was thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single into a double after he had knocked in a pair of runs to cut the deficit to three.
The Pride and the Capitales will meet Wednesday night at Hisotric Holman Stadium. Game time is 7:05. The Pride will send Hideki Nagasaka (RHP, 9-1, 3.05) to the mound looking for his tenth win of the season. Keith Dunn (RHP, 8-5, 4.25) is scheduled to pitch for Quebec. All Pride games this season can be heard on the Internet at www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
