Cutters beat Jackals 7-6
June 20, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
The New Haven County Cutters wasted little time to ignite its offense and tally a lead against Jackals starting pitcher John Kelly. The Cutters would score a run in six different innings, patiently drawing walks, hitting timely base-hits, and avoiding a salacious three-run ninth inning en route to a 7-6 victory at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Andy Weimer attempted to closeout the game for the Cutters up 7-3, however, a rejuvenated Jackals offense slugged a few doubles to cut the deficit to just a run. Weimer then recorded the final out on a Jason Belcher chopper to third.
The Cutters scored two answered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-3 lead, highlighted by a two-out RBI single by former Jackals slugger, Horace Lawrence, and a fielders choice in the sixth by Jeremy Terni that scored Chas Terni.
The Jackals began a potential big inning in the sixth, but Brad Whitworth (3-0,) along with his menacing knuckle-curve, regained his form and recorded three-straight strikeouts.
Whitworth pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowed three runs on seven hits, along with five strikeouts and five walks.
Kelly (2-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed five runs on seven hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.
