Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - After ten days away, the first-place Altoona Curve return to Peoples Natural Gas Field on Friday to begin their next homestand against the Binghamton Mets and the New Britain Rock Cats.
The stay in "Curve, PA" begins with a Freebie Friday, and the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Tony Watson "Elementary" bobblehead, courtesy of the Altoona Grand Hotel. Watson, who pitched for the Curve in 2010-2011, is depicted on the bobblehead in garb such as the character in Sherlock Holmes would wear. This was done in a nod to Pirates' broadcaster Greg Brown's play-by-play calls of "Elementary, my dear Watson!" when the Bucs' reliever gets a key out.
The series continues on Saturday with the Curve's much-anticipated Star Wars Night, and the Curve will don special Jabba the Hutt jerseys. The jerseys, which have received nationwide attention, will be auctioned online and at the ballpark with all proceeds benefitting the St. Vincent de Paul Society Soup kitchen to help feed the hungry.
Saturday night's game will also feature Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, and they will perform an on-field lightsaber battle during a Fireworks show following the game. It is also a Ritchey's Dairy Curve Kids Club game, and members get in free with their membership cards.
The Curve finish the three-game series against Binghamton on Sunday with the first Sunday Night Fireworks show of the season following the game.
After an off-day on Monday, the Curve begin a three-game series against New Britain with Peoples Natural Gas Customer Appreciation Night. Plus, it's a Two-for-Tuesday presented by Atlantic Broadband, featuring buy one, get one free specials on tickets, hot dogs and small popcorns.
On Wednesday, the Curve host an Education Day with a 10:30 a.m. first pitch. It will be a Wing & Wine Wednesday with .50-cent wings and specials on glasses of Moscato and Merlot. Fans can also take advantage of the 4-Pack Wednesday deal with four tickets, four hot dogs and four regular sodas all for $39. It's also an M&T Bank Customer Appreciation Wednesday with M&T customers being able to save $2 on any ticket to Wednesday home games this season if they show their bank card at the box office.
The series and the homestand conclude with a Thirsty Thursday, featuring 16 oz. Miller Lite and regular sodas on special for $2. The Curve will also celebrate schools letting out for the summer with a fireworks show following the game.
