Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Altoona pitching staff stymied the SeaWolves offense on Saturday afternoon, handing the Howlers their first loss of the season, 6-2 at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie struck first for the second time in the series in the bottom of the first inning against Altoona starter Aaron Thompson. Jamie Johnson led off with a single for his first Double-A hit. A balk moved Johnson to second and a Brandon Douglas sacrifice bunt pushed Johnson to third. Johnson scored on a Rawley Bishop groundout, giving the 'Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Altoona tied the game in the top of the third against Erie starter Luke Putkonen. Eric Fryer led off, walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Fryer moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Brad Chalk and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-1.

Altoona would take the lead in the sixth against reliever Rob Waite. Starling Marte led off and doubled. He scored on a Jordy Mercer base knock for a 2-1 Curve lead. Mercer would eventually come home to score on a Jordan Farrell base hit for a 3-1 advantage.
In the seventh, Chalk tripled with one out and scored on a Brock Hold single for a 4-1 Altoona lead. Altoona added two more runs in the top of the eighth to go ahead by five.
