Trenton Thunder News Release
Manchester, NH - After scoring 12 runs in their first two games of the 2011 season, the Thunder bats were quiet Sunday afternoon as Trenton (1-2) fell to New Hampshire (2-1) 4-1. Ray Kruml had a two-hit day with an RBI for the Thunder. Four Fisher Cat pitchers combined to strike out Thunder hitters ten times.
The Fisher Cats took an early lead in the bottom of the third when Mike McDade scored on an Adam Calderone double that sliced down the left field line. New Hampshire did not score again until the seventh when Cuban product Adeiny Hechavarria doubled home Jonathan Diaz and McDade added an RBI-single.
Thunder starting pitcher Graham Stoneburner was the tough-luck loser, as his effective start was squandered by the lack of production from the Trenton offense. In his Thunder and Double-A debut, the former Clemson Tiger threw five strong innings and only surrendered one run.
Trenton had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth inning when Fisher Cat pitchers Bobby Korecky and Alan Farina combined to walk four Thunder hitters, bringing in a run. Thunder SS Yadil Mujica flied out to left field with the bases loaded to end the game.
In the series finale tomorrow, the Thunder will send top Yankee pitching prospect RHP Dellin Betances to the mound for the first time this season. LHP Willie Collazo will deliver the first pitch for New Hampshire at 1:35 PM from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 1:20 PM on the Trenton Thunder Radio Network.
