
Curve Offense Awakens to Down Ducks, 7-2

Akron RubberDucks News Release
Cleveland Indians catcher Roberto Pérez caught six innings, and Indians infielder Ernie Clement had four at bats in their respective rehab assignments, but the Altoona Curve took a 7-2 series finale over the Akron RubberDucks Sunday night at Canal Park. Akron's magic number to clinch a playoff spot was trimmed to eight by Bowie's loss to Somerset Sunday.
Turning Point
Altoona broke its 30-inning scoreless drought in the top of second inning, when Mason Martin doubled to start the inning. Two batters and a wild pitch later, a Cal Mitchell sacrifice fly brought home Martin to make it 1-0.
Mound Presence
Thomas Ponticelli made his first start since July 17. He allowed a run in each of the second through fourth innings. In total, Ponticelli tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs while striking out four. Jake Miednik (1 1/3 innings) and Dakody Clemmer (one inning) followed with scoreless outings. Skylar Arias went two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs. Manuel Alvarez worked a scoreless 1 1/3 innings. Nick Mikolajchak allowed one unearned run in his one inning.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks answered back in the bottom of the fifth, when Ike Freeman singled, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Curve catcher Carter Bins. Will Brennan lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Freeman and make it 3-1 Curve. Brennan lifted another sacrifice fly in the ninth to bring home Victor Nova to make it 7-2. The RubberDucks left nine on base while going 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
Notebook
Akron won the season series with Altoona, 13-11... Pérez was 5-for-11 with two doubles, three RBI and a walk in his five rehab games with Akron this week...Clement went 1-for-7 in his two games...Game Time: 3:28...Attendance: 4,083.
