Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - As part of the "Pink in the Park Night," presented by UPMC Altoona Breast Health Center, the Altoona Curve will be honoring survivors of breast cancer with a special in-game recognition this Saturday (August 8) during the 6 p.m. game against Richmond at PNG Field. This recognition will happen between innings and will feature survivors walking from the first base gate, across the field and out the third base side with a public address tribute.
"Pink in the Park Night" features the team wearing pink jerseys with the names of people who battled the disease that affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S. The jerseys will then be auctioned off during the game and delivered in a post-game ceremony with the winners being presented their jersey by the player who was wearing it. Proceeds from the auction will go to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Blair County.
The theme night will also feature various tributes and honors for those who are survivors and those who lost their fight against the second-most diagnosed cancer in American women, according to the American Cancer Society. There will also be a fireworks celebration following the postgame ceremonies and activities.
"It is our honor to recognize those who have battled this terrible disease" said Curve General Manager Rob Egan, "Most of us have a friend or family member who has been affected by this particular form of cancer. The walk of the survivors and the commemoration of those who have braved the disease serve as both a reminder of the progress that's been made and the importance of continuing the fight."
Pink in the Park Night will be held this Saturday when the Curve take on the Richmond Flying Squirrels as part of a three-game homestand starting Friday and running through Sunday at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting AltoonaCurve.com, by calling 877.99.CURVE, or by stopping by the stadium box office this. weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
