Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 27th through August 2nd:

Erie SeaWolves designated hitter Dean Green has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 27th-August 2nd. The 26-year old hit .476 (10-for-21) with four home runs, nine RBIs, four runs scored, two walks and a 1.048 slugging percentage in five games for the SeaWolves last week. Green, who is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, reached base at least once in each of the five games he played in last week and had multiple hits in four of those games, including going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in a 7-5 win at New Britain on Saturday night. The 6'4", 255 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in RBIs (9), slugging percentage (1.048) and OPS (1.569) last week and tied for the lead in home runs (4). He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in total bases (22-2nd), batting average (.476-3rd), on-base percentage (.522-4th), hits (10-tied 5th) and extra-base hits (4-tied 6th). With his performance last week Green raised his batting average to .328, which currently leads the league. He also leads the league in slugging percentage (.524). Dean, who was a member of the Western Division roster for the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game in Portland, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2011 draft out of Barry University in Florida.

Steven Brault, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Altoona Curve, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 27th-August 2nd. The 6'1", 175 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the Curve last week and had a record of 2-0 with 15 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA. Brault, who is a native of La Mesa, California, made his first start of the week on Tuesday night against the visiting Richmond Flying Squirrels and pitched six shutout innings to earn the win in Altoona's 3-0 victory. He gave up just two hits while striking out nine batters and walking one. In his second start of the week Steven gave up two runs on four hits while striking out six batters and walking four over six innings of work to earn the win in an Altoona 7-2 victory over the visiting Akron RubberDucks. The 23-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (15) last week and tied for the lead in wins (2). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in innings pitched (12.0-tied 3rd), batting average against (.143-tied 6th) and WHIP (0.92-9th). Steven was acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Baltimore Orioles as part of a trade for Travis Snider this past offseason. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2013 draft out of Regis University in Colorado.
