May 28, 2021 - Midwest League (MWL)
South Bend Cubs News Release

For the fourth night in a row Fort Wayne (9-12) struck first in the first. And for the fourth night in a row it was a walk by a South Bend Cubs (10-11) starter that came around to score the game's first run.

Peyton Remy walked Jawuan Harris to start the game and next batter, Jonny Homza, doubled down the line in left to bring home the first run of the ballgame.

The TinCaps added a run in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded wild pitch that brought home Padres number 18 prospect Tirso Ornelas. Their 2-0 lead remained into the fifth inning when the Fort Wayne offense put Friday night's game out of reach.

With reliever Tanner Jesson-Dalton in the game for South Bend, Fort Wayne sent ten players up to the plate and on just three hits put up a four-spot. Four walks in the inning, including one with the bases-loaded, along with an RBI single from Yorman Rodriguez and a two-RBI double from Ornelas made it a 6-0 lead.

South Bend's offense sputtered out of the gates again and the Cubs have now scored just one run against Fort Wayne starting pitching in 17 innings.

Tonight it was the southpaw Ethan Elliot that shut down the Cubs o

Cole Roederer (1-3, BB) and Tyler Durna (1-2, BB) each reached base twice and Bradlee Beesley picked up his first professional hit in his first professional at-bat.

On the mound Eury Ramos (2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K) and Samuel Reyes (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 K) shined for South Bend in relief.

Up next: RHP Matt Waldron (1-1, 3.20 ERA) vs. Chris Kachmar (0-1, 5.00 ERA).

Tomorrow is a Flat Screen Saturday at Four Winds Field which means nine 50-inch TVs will be given away throughout the game. You must be 18 years or older to register and present to win. Flat Screen Saturday is presented by WSBT-TV and Real Rock 103.9 The Bear.
