Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, Mass. - Rox 3B Phillip Cuadrado blasted his ninth home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as Brockton dropped the second complete game of the series, 6-2, to the Pittsfield Colonials at Campanelli Stadium on Monday evening.
Pittsfield (16-26) scored its first run of the evening off of Rox starter Freddy Flores in the first, when 2B Danny Bomback drove in 1B Jerod Edmondson with an RBI single. The two teamed up for another run in the third, when Edmondson reached base on an error, stole second and moved to third on an errant throw by Rox C Chris Grossman, and scored on Bomback's groundout.
The fourth innings saw the Colonials make it a 3-0 game, when LF Rafael Cabreja walked, 3B Jason Taylor doubled, and C Scott Knazek brought home Cabreja with a groundout.
Brockton (25-18) finally got on the board in its half of the fourth; after 1B Melvin Falu led off the inning with a single, Cuadrado blasted one over the wall to cut the Pittsfield lead to 3-2. With two other league games in progress, Cuadrado is tied with teammate RF Keith Brachold for the league lead with nine home runs.
The Colonials were able to manufacture another run in the sixth, when 1B Donny Leon singled, went to third on Cabreja's single, and scored on 3B Jason Taylor's sacrifice fly, extending their lead to 4-2. Pittsfield tacked on a pair of runs two innings later on Taylor's two-run double, the final tallies of the game.
Rox starter Freddy Flores (5-1) had a rare difficult outing, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in eight innings pitched. Patrick Moran (1-1) picked up his first professional win, limiting Brockton to three hits and a pair of runs in five innings of work. The Colonials' bullpen was superb, with four different pitchers combining to keep the Rox hitless over the game's final four innings.
RF Daniel Carte went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Pittsfield, while Bomback and Taylor each had a pair of hits. Falu had two of Brockton's three hits.
The two teams will play the last contest of the series on Tuesday at noon, with independent league veteran Trevor Marcotte (2-2) facing Wayne Lundgren (5-2).
