Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A solo home run off the bat of 3B Roan Salas was the catalyst toward a 4-1 victory for the Vancouver Canadians (4-1) on Tuesday afternoon over the Yakima Bears. The win was Vancouver's third straight and keeps them atop the Northwest League's West Division.

Vancouver's offense remained hot on Tuesday picking up 12 hits off a depleted Yakima pitching staff. Canadians CF Jon Jones continued to soar going 3-for-4 to bump his average on the season to a gaudy .476 (10-for-21) through his first five games. 3B Roan Salas slammed his first home run of the summer bringing the Vancouver fan base to their collective feet when he put a 2-1 fastball off the center field scoreboard estimated at approximately 420 feet from home plate.

Pitching was the story for the Canadians once again on Tuesday as four pitchers combined to hold the Bears offense to just five hits. Vancouver starter RHP Taylor Cole, RHP Aleson Escalante, RHP Bryan Longpre and LHP Alex Pepe helped the Canadians drop their league leading earned run average to a miniscule 2.06 on the season.

The Canadians now embark on a key six-game series that will take them through Everett and Salem-Keizer starting on Wednesday. Vancouver will send Canadian-born RHP Zack Breault (0-0 2.25) to the mound in the series opener vs. the defending Northwest League Champion Aquasox.
