C's Win Series Vs. Yakima with 3-2 Victory on Monday Night

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th inning off the bat of 2B Bryan Kervin scored C Pierce Rankin giving the Vancouver Canadians (3-1) a 3-2 victory over the Yakima Bears (1-3) on Monday night out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Vancouver opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when CF Jon Jones smacked a triple off the center field wall and came around to count on a single from SS Shane Opitz. The C's would bring Opitz home when LF Stephen McQuail doubled off Yakima starter LHP John Pedrotty giving Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
The Bears would grab their first run of the night in the top of the 3rd inning when C Steven Rodriguez was hit by a RHP Ben White pitch and eventually came around to count on a single from SS Garrett Weber.
Yakima would tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning when DH Zach Jones reached base. Canadians 1B Balbino Fuermayor couldn't handle a throw from across the diamond (Shane Opitz), as Jones would advance out to second on the error and eventually score on a groundout off the bat of SS Garrett Weber.
The game would remain tied until the bottom of the 8th inning when Vancouver would once again manufacture a run late much like they did on Opening Night (June 17). On Monday, C Pierce Rankin would pick up his second straight base hit, and work his way over to third before 2B Bryan Kervin hit a lazy fly ball out to Yakima LF Marc Bourgeois who with Rankin tagging, missed his catcher, letting Rankin to score and give the C's a 3-2 lead.
From there, the stage was set for RHP Drew Permison to come in and collect his second save of the summer getting 2B Danny Pulfer to ground out to end the game.
With the win, Vancouver remains in a tie for first in the Northwest League West Division alongside Eugene (3-1) who topped Boise 9-4 on Monday night in Oregon.
