Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears lost the final game of a five-game series against the Vancouver Canadians 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. The Bears dropped four of five on the road trip, including the last three games.

The game started with three scoreless innings before the Bears plated a run in the fourth. Danny Pulfer scored that run, as he led off with a single and then was driven in by a Marc Bourgeois sacrifice fly.

That lead wouldn't last long as the Canadians scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A solo home run from Roan Salas got the C's scoring started and then three consecutive singles plated the other run.

The Canadians added two more runs in the seventh inning. Jon Berti drove in Jon Jones with a triple and then scored himself on a single by Shane Opitz.

The loss went on Bears starter Randy Hamrick, who gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Justin Albert also allowed two runs in his two innings on the mound. Kable Hogben pitched a scoreless eighth inning with a pair strikeouts mixed in.

Offensively the Bears were outhit 12-5, with no Yakima player stroking more than one hit.

The Bears defense had its best performance of the season, committing no errors and turning three double plays.

Yakima begins a six-game homestand Wednesday at Yakima County Stadium. The Spokane Indians are the opponent for the first three games. Right-handed pitcher for the Bears Brad Wilson will throw out the first pitch at 7:05 Wednesday. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free magnet schedule and there will be a post-game fireworks show.
