(Ron Tonkin Field - Hillsboro, OR) - Canadians RHP Josh Winckowski put together his best outing of the season and needed two as Vancouver shut out the Hillsboro Hops for a second straight night with a 2-0 victory on Saturday night. The win keeps Vancouver (7-5) in a share of top spot in the North Division alongside both Everett and Spokane.

Vancouver managed the game's winning run in the top of the 1st inning when 1B Jake Brodt hit a sacrifice fly off Hillsboro RHP Jackson Goddard that scored CF Otto Lopez giving the Canadians a 1-0 lead. Goddard would put the first three batters of the game on base walking Lopez, hitting Canadians C Chris Bec and walking DH Yorman Rodriguez so the fact the Hops only allowed a lone run was likely a relief.

That lone run held up as Canadians RHP Josh Winckowski went six wonderful innings without allowing a Hops runner past second base before passing the ball forward to RHP Joey Pulido(2.0IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 1SO) and RHP Cobi Johnson (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2SO) who combined to preserve the victory. Vancouver's only other run came in the top of the 9th when DH Yorman Rodriguez tripled to lead off the inning off RHP Wesley Rodriguez before SS Jesus Severino singled back up the middle to give the Canadians a 2-0 lead.

With the win, the Canadians improved to 26-24 (.520) on the season and 7-5 (.583) for the second half of the summer maintaining a share of top spot in the North Division as Everett won at home over Boise 5-3, and Spokane topped Eugene 7-2 out at PK Park. Tri-City fell to Salem-Keizer 15-2 to fall two games off the pace.

Vancouver will play the rubber match of this five-game series on Sunday, August 5th, 2018 at 4:05pm as LHP Elio Silva (2-2, 4.24) goes up against RHP Ryan Weiss (0-1, 3.75) and can be heard live in its entirety at www.canadiansbaseball.com.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, August 14th to open up a six-game homestand vs. Tri-City (Aug 14-16) and Spokane (Aug 17-19) with tickets available by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
